An Indian boy on his first day at school in the US

May be we need light relief, and here goes:

An Indian boy on his first day at school in the US

It was the first day of school and a new student named Chandrashekhar Subrahmanyam entered the fourth grade.

The teacher said, “Let’s begin by reviewing some American History.

Who said, “Give me Liberty , or give me Death”?

She saw a sea of blank faces, except for Chandrashekhar, who had his hand up: “Patrick Henry, 1775″ he said.

“Very good!” Who said, “Government of the People, by the People, for the People, shall not perish from the Earth?”

Again, no response except from Chandrashekhar.” Abraham Lincoln, 1863″ said Chandrashekhar.

The teacher snapped at the class, “Class, you should be ashamed.

Chandrashekhar, who is new to our country, knows more about its history than you do!”

She heard a loud whisper: “F**k the Indians,”

“Who said that?” she demanded.

Chandrashekhar put his hand up. “General Custer, 1862.”

At that point, a student in the back said, “I’m gonna puke.”

The teacher glares around and asks “All right! Now, who said that?”

Again, Chandrashekhar says, “George Bush to the Japanese Prime Minister, 1991.”

Now with almost a mob hysteria someone said, “You little shit. If you say anything else, I’ll kill you.”

Chandrashekhar frantically yells at the top of his voice, “Gary Condit to Chandra Levy, 2001.”

The teacher fainted. And as the class gathered around the teacher on the floor, someone said, “Oh shit, we’re fucked!”

And Chandrashekhar said quietly, “George Bush, Iraq , 2005.”

AT LEAST THERE'S GREEN PASTURE OUT THERE...

BETTER THAN A ROTTING LAND?
Read this posting and tot that its worth posting it here as well. read on...

I am a former Malaysian who has lived half my life in Australia. I feel that it is incumbent on me to lay bare the cupboard as it were so that people can gain an accurate insight of what real life is like for an Asian migrant in a country like Australia.

Like the many tens of thousands who saw no future for our children in the land of our birth that we deeply loved, we came to Australia with trepidation and heavy hearts in the days following the dismantling of the shameful and odious race-discriminating White Australia policy.

Apart from free speech and the right to express one’s views without fear of any backlash, one of the first things we found was that race and religion have no place whatsoever in Australian society.

After determining for ourselves in real life that there was no racial group that was regarded as being superior to any other group and that we had precisely the same rights as any other Australian, we determined to be even more productive citizens.

The rewards soon arrived. Owing to their comparatively good results in the Higher School Certificate examinations, our children were in the envious position of picking and choosing the universities and the courses they wished to attend - and all for free.

In return, Australia has benefited greatly from the high income taxes that our children are now paying in their chosen professions.

In this regard, will be disappointed to learn that I do not own a business, let alone a prosperous one to hand down to my children. My children have to make their way in mainstream Australian life like everyone else - and so they should.

It would be comforting for most people to know that in Australia it is unlawful to discriminate against anyone on sex, religion, race or color. Equal rights for all means precisely that - no ifs, no buts about it. Hence it is possible for anyone of any faith who so desires and is good enough to become prime minister of Australia.

A large amount of the high taxes we pay goes towards the upkeep of the unemployed, the disabled, the needy and the pensioners. There are no freebies or special concessions for anyone else.

As freedom is speech is recognised as a basic right of every citizen, migrants have no problems expressing their complaints or views of self-serving or corrupt or incompetent politicians or bureaucrats in the open media. An impartial judicial system exists for all to take matters further.

Citizens have the right to preserve whatever cultural heritage, customs and language they are comfortable with and there are organisations set up to address whatever complaints and problems they may encounter in the pursuit of their traditional way of life.

Pensions and other forms of welfare payment are issued strictly on a means-tested basis. If anything, the system has been accused of being far too fair and generous. Malaysian retirees and others who have not worked or paid any taxes in Australia have been known to receive pensions in Australia after satisfying the means and residential criteria.

As race is such a non-issue in this country, nobody cares or bothers to pay any attention to the financial success or failure of any particular race in the community. To do so is to invite ridicule and scorn. After all, we are all Australians together.

The same benchmark that is set with respect to professional and educational standards, opportunities, job promotions, asset acquisitions and so forth applies to everyone bar none.

Given the special privileges accorded, apparently in perpetuity, malays in Malaysia will clearly find Australia a turn off. On the other hand, minority non-malays who are not as fortunate may have a different viewpoint.

VOTES IN NOW LIVE WITH IT...

CONGRATULATIONS!
The voters have chosen. Whatever it is they will have to live with it until either someone dies again or the General Election comes.

Until then welcome to being closer to be developed with or without your consent as its considered your consent is 100% given in the ballot box.

If tomorrow your padang bola has a metal box in the center "Don't Complain", if your abruptly tarred road breaks apart "Don't Complain", but its considered lucky to get a TOLL right in front of your housing area as it means the party you chosen is taking your development seriously and will need more funds to help you. You just have to pay for it for another 50 years or so. Congratulations and welcome to the club....

HAPPY FEAT?...

Did some politician say Bloggers are immature?

Funny isn't it... that we get truck loads of immature people behaving like school kids when citizens are expected to place their lives and development on them.

Some might think hecking and shouting or throwing bottles are just mischievous acts that should not be overly concerned about. But here lies the problem...

ITS NEVER A PROBLEM, THERE'S NO PROBLEM, PEOPLE DIE EVERYDAY SO WHAT'S THE PROBLEM? etc....

Meanwhile in Dewan Rakyat (as reported by The Sun)
"Students in the public gallery saw their MPs were just as playful in the Dewan as they were in the classrooms. The people their parents voted for were reading newspapers, making phone calls and taking photographs of each other"

That pretty much sums up the fate of all citizens... now go and make Monkey Faces at the person that pays your salary!

Security And You...

Sometimes security has a hidden back door...

from an email:
" A new device has been introduced to the marketplace that is a huge danger to anyone who uses a PC that is not theirs. It is known as a key tracker and it sits between the keyboard and the PC. As can be seen in the pictures it is very discreet but is probably one of the most dangerous items of equipment to personal information that is readily available. These devices record every key that is pressed on the keyboard.

Due to it's position (it sits between the keyboard and the PC) the information is logged by the tracker before the PC knows about it and as such is very difficult for the PC to detect. They are available in both USB and PS2 formats so pretty much any PC can be logged. The user puts the tracker in line, leaves it there for a set amount of time and then retrieves it. They can then download the data onto their own PC. If you intend to use a PC that is not yours (ie hotel business centre, internet café, airport etc) I would advise looking at the back of the PC to see if one of these trackers has been placed in line (scrambling under a desk is the better alternative to losing your email details).

If you cannot get to see the back of the PC, I would suggest you don't use it for anything personal. If a tracker is there and you do not notice it, whoever placed it there (could be any user of that PC before you) will be able to recall all of your keystrokes – logins, passwords etc. These trackers cost less than £30 and they are definitely out there already. " example this site:
http://www.keyghost.com/techextreme.htm

I've received this in my email and decided to check it out. Its actually a gadget to log whatever you key when using a PC that was intoduced long ago but now its better. Now that is a bit of an issue like selling handguns to the public at any 7-eleven. The companies that sells this claim its to help monitor your staffs or used to log every thing you type just incase you suffer a system crash.

"I tried it in several places such as the URL bar in Internet explorer and in Half-Life's console and it worked in both." says a reviewer.

Again its a nice gadget to as its claimed that you can use that to get back your info when there's a crash. That's only 1/2 truth... if only you are doing text based things with your PC. Using a mouse or digital pen won't do. So if there's a crash its gone. THAT'S WHY WE DUDES PRACTICE SAVING OR USE AUTOSAVE! ... cause no Photoshop or Illustrator files will ever be logged via a PS2 or USB port!

Now where would this nifty KEYLOGGING Gadget be best applied?
Its good just like a handgun sold in USA which is not illegal. But what if just like a handgun, any uni dude can get one and wipe the whole school out? in this case he/she can plug one at a teacher's PC or some friend's home PC without them knowing.

No those places are puny to what extend this little baby can do! Its has more uses for abuse (like a handgun) than for security/protection. In large corporations they don't use this as they use screen capturing monitoring systems and tracking via servers. That's OK as the staffs are told so and you can see it in Task Manager but this gadget is invisible to the OS and only if you are the type to check behind your PC every day then its safe.

Soft sell - Moms & Dads could use this on their kids pc to check what they are doing?

Hard sell - Crooks & Spys could use this on their victims to find their weaknesses?

Just like a handgun sold for protection, its never the responsibility for the gun maker if their customer use their product to wipe out the neighbourhood. But do we need handguns in the hands of the public the 1st place?

"A handy backup device and useful for Big Brother surveillance. The very epitome of plug and play. Idiot proof installation and operation." - a perfect gadget for any crook than any mom or dad.

"RESOLVED" - LHDN e-FILING LEAKING DATA?

LHDN E-FILING A OK!

I had a meeting today with some Respectable People in the Taxation field and updated them on the details of info I posted recently. They also filled me in on the process and progress achieved by LHDN. It is also noted that the DG is very well respected and dedicated to make LHDN an efficient and progressive department in the eyes of the Industry and Public. Problems and glitches are taken seriously and suggestions for a better, more efficient and user friendly system are well noted.

As you can see there's a difference with e-Filing 2005 and e-Filing 2006. Many Taxation companies know this and are supporting this initiative. Upgrades to accomodate new features were added and one of them was to save your Form before submitting for later review as this is a required feature for Tax service providers. I hope there will be more upgrades and features for Year 2007 as the people are more well verse with it and lots can be accomplished here.

Update on the events taken place on 7th & 8th April 2007. I login during the weekends to look into what happened and I must note what was experienced during that 2 days did not repeat at all now. After many clicks and refreshes its STILL OK! as it should be.

The only difference or anomaly would be the IC field. During that 2 days the IC field would be blank after I click continue and I had to re-fill in that line again. Even Windows autofill was not available which is normally there after I had filled numbers or words.

I am sorry for not being able to note this anomaly to Trevor when he asked me to discribe step by step what I did as I didn't know it could or might have been something weird. Now it is no longer blank and is locked from any editing. I verified this with another person's account and it now saves and refreshes to the next page as was intended. And for those that asked me why there's no IC no. filled now I presume is explained.

Whoever encounters this please to notify Najlah Ishak (Public Relations Officer) LHDNM 03-6201 2344/019-222 0034 or drop me a note so it can be forwarded to the persons I met today. They will be in better position than me to highlight any matters to the DG.

It is good to know that this is resolved and I am able to submit my Tax Returns via the e-Filing system. Here are some important guidelines as it runs on Active-X and Microsoft Windows 2000/XP and Internet Explorer. Please avoid other browsers and you need latest service packs as well.

Please do take time to view through some of these info here:

https://ef.hasil.org.my/English/Panduan/User%20Manual%20for%20Login%20e-Borang.pdf

And do fill in this questionaire to enable LHDN to better understand our needs:

https://ef.hasil.org.my/Form/BPPC2007%20BI.pdf

P/S: I was assured LHDN would not stoop so low to the point of poison letters and special branches. They are dedicated just like what Trevor said in his post. It is also not right to quote their name in any mails to create fear and stop people from commenting.

Draft Blogger's Code of Conduct - Tim O'Reilly

When I wrote my Call for a Blogging Code of Conduct last week, I suggested some ideas of what such a code might contain, but didn't actually put forth a draft that people could subscribe to. We're not quite there yet, but we have a plan.

We've drafted a code of conduct that will eventually be posted on
bloggingcode.org, and created a badge that sites can display if they want to link to that code of conduct.

But because we want a period of review, we don't want to finalize that code yet. I've put a draft below (and you'll see it's based closely on the
BlogHer Community Guidelines that I linked to last week.) But we're also working with wikia to put the draft through a wiki-based review process on blogging.wikia.com. (There's an easy to remember shortcut link at http://blogging.wikia.com/wiki/BCC) Please feel free to join in and edit the wiki as well as encouraging others to do so. We'll post the final version on bloggingcode.org, along with the html to display the badge and link to the code.

(While wikis are great for developing the code, we don't want it to be a moving target once people have signed up for it.)

Here's the first draft:
We celebrate the blogosphere because it embraces frank and open conversation. But frankness does not have to mean lack of civility. We present this Blogger Code of Conduct in hopes that it helps create a culture that encourages both personal expression and constructive conversation.

1. We take responsibility for our own words and for the comments we allow on our blog.
We are committed to the "Civility Enforced" standard: we will not post unacceptable content, and we'll delete comments that contain it.

We define unacceptable content as anything included or linked to that:- is being used to abuse, harass, stalk, or threaten others- is libelous, knowingly false, ad-hominem, or misrepresents another person,- infringes upon a copyright or trademark- violates an obligation of confidentiality- violates the privacy of others

We define and determine what is "unacceptable content" on a case-by-case basis, and our definitions are not limited to this list. If we delete a comment or link, we will say so and explain why. [We reserve the right to change these standards at any time with no notice.]

2. We won't say anything online that we wouldn't say in person.

3. We connect privately before we respond publicly.
When we encounter conflicts and misrepresentation in the blogosphere, we make every effort to talk privately and directly to the person(s) involved--or find an intermediary who can do so--before we publish any posts or comments about the issue.

4. When we believe someone is unfairly attacking another, we take action.
When someone who is publishing comments or blog postings that are offensive, we'll tell them so (privately, if possible--see above) and ask them to publicly make amends. If those published comments could be construed as a threat, and the perpetrator doesn't withdraw them and apologize, we will cooperate with law enforcement to protect the target of the threat.

5. We do not allow anonymous comments.
We require commenters to supply a valid email address before they can post, though we allow commenters to identify themselves with an alias, rather than their real name.

6. We ignore the trolls.

We prefer not to respond to nasty comments about us or our blog, as long as they don't veer into abuse or libel. We believe that feeding the trolls only encourages them--"Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, but the pig likes it." Ignoring public attacks is often the best way to contain them.

We also decided we needed an "anything goes" badge for sites that want to warn possible commenters that they are entering a free-for-all zone. The text to accompany that badge might go something like this:

This is an open, uncensored forum. We are not responsible for the comments of any poster, and when discussions get heated, crude language, insults and other "off color" comments may be encountered. Participate in this site at your own risk.

Snipers Around The World...

Death threats against bloggers are NOT "protected speech"
(why I cancelled my ETech presentations)

As I type this, I am supposed to be in San Diego, delivering a workshop at the ETech conference. But I'm not. I'm at home, with the doors locked, terrified. For the last four weeks, I've been getting death threat comments on this blog. But that's not what pushed me over the edge. What finally did it was some disturbing threats of violence and sex posted on two other blogs... blogs authored and/or owned by a group that includes prominent bloggers. People you've probably heard of. People like respected Cluetrain Manifesto co-author Chris Locke (aka Rageboy).

[UPDATE: Comments have now been closed [3/28/07, 6 PM]
after someone posted personal data mixed with inaccurate information. It is the only comment I have removed from this thread. I wish to thank everyone for their support, but honestly--the high visibility and coverage of this one post has led to more trouble for me. Now, even people who had never heard of me are expressing hatred and creating new problems (posting my social security number and address, horrific lies about me, etc). I do want to clarify that I still do NOT know who made the photos and the posts from the two sites--the noose photo, not shown here, as well as the photo below--or who made the threatening comments on this blog. There is no evidence that the blog comments and the posts are by the same person or persons; and it is open to debate whether the photos (including the one not shown here--of the noose and my head) are threatening, or merely vile. The people I've named here as being participants on one or both of those sites have not denied their involvement with the sites (as owners or participants), but all have denied making either of the posts in question, although it was someone who had author priviliges on the blog, not a random commenter. This whole debate will have to continue elsewhere now. While I'm happy the topic is being discussed so vigorously, the more my name and this post is brought up, the more abuse I get in email or other blogs--and now that my address has been posted... Yes, I should have known that when I posted, and had I known the firestorm that would be created, I probably would have stayed silent. But my words here still stand. This is everything I know--and don't know--about the situation.]

[Note: This post includes disturbing language and a picture beyond anything I'd normally say here, so some of you might not want to continue reading. But I felt it was important to be specific about as much as the police investigation will allow.]

It began just over four weeks ago, when something shifted. It started with death threat blog comments left here (which some of you may have seen before I deleted them) including:

adoption. They are now in Balakong area.

Thanks to those willing to save these PUPs in advance.

NO ACCOUNTABILITY - FINGER POINTING KUNGFU...

Leaking pipe brings Immigration HQ to a halt
By V.P. SUJATA

PUTRAJAYA: A burst pipe caused havoc at the seven-storey RM200mil Immigration Department headquarters here, resulting in the suspension of daily operations.

The incident, which has been blamed on poor workmanship and maintenance, was detected at about 8.30am yesterday.

Poor design and shoddy work blamed
PUTRAJAYA: Poor design, shoddy workmanship, and bad supervision and maintenance are to blame for the burst pipe incident at the Immigration headquarters, said Putrajaya Public Works Department director Abdul Rahim Ahmad.

PAC: What happened?
PUTRAJAYA: The Public Accounts Committee wants an explanation on two recent incidents in Putrajaya – the massive pipe burst that “flooded” the Immigration headquarters and the landslide in Precinct 9.

Poor design and shoddy work blamed ????
Now who is the supervisor for checking and approval payment after job done? If job was shoddy and poor design how it got approved and tenants move in? How then about CF? So head of division or head of Ministry no need to be ACCOUNTABLE? Putrajaya Public Works Department director Abdul Rahim Ahmad are you accountable as well?

LHDN e-FILING LEAKING DATA? (RESOLVED)

(RESOLVED PLS READ HERE)

IMPORTANT - LHDN Please look into this Security Flaw... As I was filing my tax returns via e-Filing I encountered something that made me worried. As I clicked the save & continue button but the page refreshed with some other person's Tax No. as well as their PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL info!

I was shocked and can even see the bank info and account number... I print screen and hope to make it known to others the possible leak of P&C info.

I find this NOT amusing as leaking anyone's financial info makes me lose trust in the system and LHDN. Imagine I got to view 2 other person's data!

If anyone here has direct access to LHDN's Head Officer please inform him/her as to this matter to rectify ASAP!

Latest update 080407 - login and saw some more other person's tax returns.... sigh!

NOW I'M SERIOUSLY WORRIED!!!!

P/S: I'm not here to undermind LHDN's effort with regards to e-Filing. I hope LHDN doesn't view this in wrong light, cause I hope they rectify this ASAP as I too would like to file my Tax returns via e-Filing before the dateline as a responsible citizen!

Latest update 090407 - I couldn't sleep well last nite. Been thinking of this issue.

I think when I click continue (a) and someone else clicks continue (b) as well the server serves back the refreshed pages from (b) to me and (a) to the other person. How else can others see another's info at the same time unless its been swap somewhere along the line.

Like I mentioned I made a call to one of the person via the phone no. listed in the e-filing tax return and talk with the them. As they also could see another person's info filled in the page. One wonders how many are actually facing this swapping of info?

What if a robber/kidnapper gets some nice info on some Dato's tax returns? He/she would know he's particulars and the amount of money he earns yearly and tax he declares as well as his bank account no. Sounds like a Hollywood movie title to me..... "Tropicana Log-in"

Latest update 120471 - SIGH!
This is why when head of gov labels Bloggers as liars everything that is real is automatically put in bad light and claimed as lies.

I wouldn't be bothered if Newspapers and TV stations were truthful enough to highlight some Bugs in the system. But it will not see the light of day cause of some higher directive and guess what? Blogs are the only place to post this matter so someone can take action to rectify it ASAP without having to go thru debates and red-tapes (I presume).

Well if its still like this next week I won't know what to say other than good luck to those still posting their info online. I hope its correct and not accidentally edited by some other person and submitted in wrongly.

FYI: I didn't even know I was filling in the wrong form, until I saw the top part that listed the tax no. and I tot that's not my TAX NO.! that's not my NAME either! then only did I realise this problem...

Latest update 120471 again - Thanks Malay Mail & LHDN at least its looked into. Even though the heading makes me look like a fool but who cares as long as LHDN e-Filing is fool proof. Rest assured if its confirmed Bugless, I'll post my Tax Returns knowing its safer than before. Anyway thanks to those that did respond and may have rectified it! (but hey "it didn't happen")

I Think Therefore I Live...

Here is the situation:

1. The Gov feels our youth can't think
http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2007/4/6/nation/20070406172546&sec=nation
"Many young people in Malaysia lack the ability to think critically, said Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat."

2. The Gov feels we think and write too much
http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2007/4/6/nation/20070406140904&sec=nation
"Shaziman also said Singapore had started registering its bloggers while Thailand, China and Middle East countries practiced censorship of its local blogs."

Reply to No.1

Youths and in General all Malaysians can't think well cause the Gov been asking us not to for past 20 years or so. When they ask a question, the standard reply was "toe the line", "don't ask too much, we know what we are doing", "you are are too young, that's why we think for you and tell you what to do"...etc.

By the way I feel those adults at state and city council level also can't think that well too. Else we would have less news of stupid flash floods in the same area over and over again after millions spent! and did these same adults hire kindergarden kiddos to tar our roads with Play-Doh?

So Mr.Pot calling Mr.Potty black!

Reply to No.2

Mr.Dimwit no.5 (I think) Singapore is a control freak, its not called FINE CITY for no reason! and Thailand did not censor the Internet until it was taken over by the Power Hungry Military. How else you think the opposition held so many demostrations to topple Tak-Sin? Thanks to the Blogs and SMS freedom that is! Why the Military worry about this to censor it? cause they scared it can happen to them as well... Controlling Information Is Power. Now don't even compare us Malaysia to China & Middle-East countries, we are not ruled by Socialist, Communist, Dictator, Warlords & Kings...etc.

For Pete's sake why we must benchmark ourselves under the Limbo bar rather than above it?
Why not USA, UK, Switzerland, Scandinavia, Australia, and a whole bunch of DEVELOPED countires?

Opps... sorry Malaysians can't think properly remember! (refer no.1)

Future Leaders?

"How much more samseng can a group of boys look? More pics of them would’ve been good, but I somehow didn’t feel like standing in front of those flers with my camera, clicking away :(

The blackshirts with the Scorpion are Pemuda Umno Klang. The back of their t-shirt says “Hardcore” :

Anyone care to venture a guess as to what ’cause’ these young chaps were there $truggling for?" - posted by Nat http://jelas.info/
All I can say if this is what our PM means by Islam Hadhari and training Future Leaders.... Good Luck to ALL MALAYSIANS!
Its more like Islam Harakiri !

RACISM IN OUR PARLIAMENT

Racism is well an alive in our Parliament after 50yrs of Independance.

A MALAY Minister called an opposition CHINESE Minister "BABI" in Parliament.

Calling anyone "BABI" is a direct insult to him/her and his Race. Much like if someone called that Minister a 'BABI", it is equal to calling him a "MALAY BABI"!

If you do not know what does "BABI" means (no its got nothing to do with BAMBI) it means "PIG". Now we have Chinese PIG, Malay PIG, Indian PIG & etc. in Parliament?

So its also fine that our kids in school calls each other "BABI" if one doesn't like the other race? Since its OK for adults that runs the country to do that. Maybe they will be brave enough to even call the teacher "BABI" something like "Cikgu BABI" (Teacher PIG).

So where does it "STOPS"? It "STOPS" in our DEMOCRATIC PARLIMENT where everything is meant to be debated and resolved in a Sane Manner and Mannerism.

So for that Stupid Minister that utter that word, you will forever be branded a "RACIST PIG"...

Don't Laugh!

I laughed like Hell watching this... reminds me of a few of our Cabinet Ministers!
Thanks MM...
